Family: I'm very lucky...I have a large family that includes the family I was born into and my family of choice. I have a brother and two sisters and I have longtime friends, all of which help to keep me grounded, give me support and remind me that it's important to be a part of something bigger than ourselves.
Education: I grew up in Greensboro and graduated from East Tennessee State University with a degree in Communications. As a member of the Board of Aldermen, I have attended numerous workshops to better understand issues like rate structure and zoning that directly affect us and our community. And I have participated in Green Growth Toolbox workshops to better understand how being one of the fastest growing counties, in one of the fastest growing states can impact our quality of life.
Career: Recent retirement has afforded me additional time to meet with citizens to discuss community issues. I served as the Architectural Review Coordinator for the Bald Head Association in my last position. Formerly, I have been a successful small business owner and realtor.
Political experience: I do not consider my past experiences to be political. Serving on the Board of Aldermen the past ten years and previously on the Planning Board has really been about participating and being part of the community.

As most of us who did not get to grow up here are fond of saying, “Unfortunately I wasn’t born in Southport, but I got here as quick as I could.” In my case... In the late 90's I bought a home built in 1913, that my now 93-year-old neighbor, Lena Fisher, would laugh and later tell me that she had been sure my house needed to be torn down.
For me, my commitment to Southport began with a three-year restoration of a house and grew into a sense of belonging and responsibility to our community. That’s why I served on the Planning Board and then on the Board of Aldermen for the past ten years. I am grateful to be a member of this community and am committed to continuing to serve. There's more work to do.
I believe communication is always the key to finding a solution; that's why I have included my phone number 704-560-2443. As an Alderman and neighbor I'll continue to need your ideas, so we can work together to make sure Southport remains recognizable and today's decisions will allow whoever owns my house in 100 years to enjoy Southport the way we do now.
